New Delhi – Reliance Jio has reinstated its ‘Value’ category of prepaid plans, which was removed some time ago. Under this category, voice-only plans priced at Rs 448 and Rs 1748 have been reintroduced. Additionally, a new sub-category called ‘Affordable Packs’ has been introduced, featuring Jio’s most economical prepaid plan priced at Rs 189.
Rs 189 Plan Makes a Comeback
This plan is not entirely new, as it was previously available before the tariff hike in July 2024. Initially priced at Rs 155, it was removed but has now been reinstated. According to a TelecomTalk report dated January 30, 2025, the Rs 189 plan had been discontinued but is now back in Jio’s offerings.
Benefits of Jio’s Rs 189 Plan
- Validity: 28 days
- Data: 2GB total (post FUP speed of 64 Kbps)
- Calling: Unlimited voice calls
- SMS: 300 messages
- Additional Benefits: Access to JioCinema, JioTV, and JioCloud
Alternative Options
Jio’s Rs 189 plan is currently the most affordable. However, users can also opt for the Rs 199 plan, which includes:
- Validity: 18 days
- Data: 1.5GB per day
- SMS: 100 per day While this plan offers more data, its validity is shorter compared to the Rs 189 plan. Neither plan provides unlimited 5G data.
Future Expectations
It remains uncertain whether Jio will introduce a value plan with 84 days of validity, similar to Bharti Airtel’s Rs 548 plan. Recently, Indian telecom operators have made multiple adjustments to their prepaid offerings. In the coming days, Vodafone Idea (Vi) and Bharti Airtel may also announce further changes to their plans.
