The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly’s Business Rules Committee will meet on February 4, 2024, to continue refining the procedures governing the functioning of the legislature. The meeting, scheduled for 11 am, will take place in the office chamber of Abdul Rahim Rather, Speaker of the J&K Legislative Assembly, at the LA Complex in Jammu.
This meeting marks the third gathering of the nine-member committee, which was established on December 24, 2024, to draft new rules for legislative operations. The committee, chaired by the Speaker, has already met twice earlier this year.
The first meeting occurred on January 1, 2025, followed by a second meeting on January 7, 2025, where the committee focused on addressing discrepancies in the existing rules. It was clarified that creating new legislative rules is the sole responsibility of the Lieutenant Governor.
The committee is tasked with finalizing the draft Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business ahead of the upcoming Budget session, which is slated to start on March 3, 2025.
The committee comprises nine members, including former Speaker Mubarik Gul (NC), Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami (CPI-M), Saifullah Mir (NC), Nizam-ud-Din Bhat (Congress), Pawan Kumar Gupta (BJP), Justice (retired) Hasnain Masoodi (NC), Ranbir Singh Pathania (BJP), and independent MLA Muzaffar Iqbal Khan.
