The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has introduced a new rule that simplifies the process for members to update their personal details. With this update, members can now make corrections to their profiles without needing to submit any supporting documents. Here’s a breakdown of the changes and how you can take advantage of this new process.
What’s New in EPFO’s Updated Rules?
EPFO has launched an important update that allows its members to quickly and easily correct their personal details, including information such as name spelling, date of birth, parents’ names, marital status, spouse’s name, gender, and dates of joining or leaving a company. These updates are now possible without needing to submit any documents. This change is expected to benefit nearly 3.9 lakh members, whose previous requests were pending. Now, these members can cancel their old requests and resubmit them using the streamlined process.
Who Can Benefit from This Change?
This new facility is available for EPFO members whose Universal Account Number (UAN) is linked and verified with Aadhaar. The update aims to reduce the number of complaints and speed up the resolution of pending requests. Previously, members needed employer verification to make changes, which could take up to 28 days. Now, the process has been simplified, allowing members to update their information faster and without additional paperwork.
Linking PAN with Aadhaar is Essential
Before updating your details, ensure that your PAN card is linked with your Aadhaar. If it is not, you must complete the linking process first. Under the new system, EPFO approval will still be required for updating about 50% of the information, while the remaining updates can be made directly by the members themselves. This change is designed to address complaints more efficiently and resolve them quicker.
How to Update Your Details
To update your information, follow these steps:
- Visit the EPFO website and log in using your UAN number and password.
- Navigate to the ‘Manage’ tab.
- If you need to update your name, date of birth, or gender, select the ‘Modify Basic Details’ option.
- Enter the correct information as per your Aadhaar details. Be sure that your EPF and Aadhaar records match.
- If required, upload documents such as your Aadhaar, PAN, or birth certificate.
This simplified process is a significant improvement, allowing EPFO members to make changes quickly and without the hassle of submitting documents.
