Srinagar, Jan 31: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast indicating a fresh bout of rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir as two new Western Disturbances (WDs) are expected to begin affecting the region on February 1 and February 3.
These weather systems will bring precipitation to the area until February 5, with the mountainous regions likely to see fresh snowfall.
Western Disturbances are key drivers of winter precipitation in the region, and the upcoming disturbances are anticipated to deliver much-needed snowfall to the higher altitudes, benefitting glaciers and water sources that support the agricultural and hydropower sectors in Kashmir.
In light of the forecast, authorities have urged residents and travelers—particularly those in hilly areas—to remain vigilant for possible disruptions, including snow accumulation and hazardous road conditions. As Kashmir transitions from the intense Chillai Kalan period to the relatively milder Chillai Khurd, this upcoming wet spell is expected to affect temperature trends across the Valley in the days ahead.
