A fresh Western Disturbance is set to become active on January 29, bringing heavy rainfall and cold conditions to the hilly regions of North India. According to the Meteorological Department, rain is expected in states like Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on January 29 and 30. Additionally, dense fog warnings have been issued for Northeast India over the next two to three days.

Gradual Decline in Cold Across North India

The cold wave in North India has slightly eased, with sunny days providing temporary relief. However, the mercury is expected to dip by two degrees, signaling a slight increase in cold conditions. Over the last 24 hours, Himachal Pradesh experienced a cold wave, while dense fog enveloped central and eastern Uttar Pradesh. Similar foggy conditions were observed in Bihar, coastal Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, and coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Rain Alerts in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam

The weather department has also issued rain alerts for Arunachal Pradesh and Assam on January 24. The upcoming Western Disturbance on January 29 will extend its impact to the western Himalayan regions, resulting in rain in the hilly areas of North India through January 30.

Current Temperature Trends

Jammu and Kashmir, as well as Ladakh, are currently experiencing sub-zero temperatures. In Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, the minimum temperature ranges between 1 to 5 degrees Celsius. Across North West India, temperatures are hovering between 5 to 10 degrees Celsius, with a further dip to 4 degrees recorded in the last 24 hours.

Fog and Cold Wave Forecast

In the next 24 hours, the minimum temperature in North West India is expected to decrease by two degrees, while Central India may experience a three-degree drop. Himachal Pradesh and Punjab are likely to witness a cold wave on January 24 and 25. Dense fog is predicted to continue in East Uttar Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Bihar on January 26. Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, and Mizoram will face similar foggy conditions on January 27.
