Mumbai, Jan 31: Cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar, whose remarkable career and record-breaking performances have left an indelible mark on international cricket, is set to receive the BCCI’s prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the Board’s annual gala on Saturday.

The 51-year-old maestro, who played an astounding 664 international matches for India, holds the record for the most runs in both Test and ODI cricket.

“Yes, he will be the recipient of the C.K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award for 2024,” a senior BCCI official confirmed.

Tendulkar’s incredible career statistics include 200 Test matches and 463 ODIs—both the highest by any player. He amassed 15,921 runs in Test cricket and an unmatched 18,426 runs in ODIs. Despite his dominance across formats, he played just a single T20 International during his illustrious journey.

Last year, the prestigious lifetime award was presented to former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri and legendary wicketkeeper Farokh Engineer.

Regarded as one of the greatest batters in the history of the game, Tendulkar made his international debut in 1989 as a 16-year-old against Pakistan. Over the next two decades, he became not just a prolific run-scorer but also an inspiration for generations of cricketers and fans alike.

Beyond his countless records, Tendulkar was a crucial part of India’s historic 2011 World Cup-winning squad, marking his sixth and final appearance in the global tournament. At the peak of his career, his presence at the crease could bring an entire nation to a standstill, and his wicket remained the most prized scalp for bowlers worldwide.

With this recognition, Tendulkar becomes the 31st recipient of the C.K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award, which was instituted in 1994 in honor of India’s first-ever Test captain, Col. C.K. Nayudu, a cricketing pioneer who also contributed as an administrator.

Nayudu’s legacy includes an extraordinary 47-year first-class career spanning from 1916 to 1963, a world record that remains unmatched.
