100% Distribution Targeted Before Schools Reopen
Srinagar, Feb 08 (KNO): The School Education Department (SED) Kashmir has announced that nearly 60% of free textbooks have already been delivered to government schools across the region. Officials have assured that all schools will receive 100% of the books before reopening after winter vacations.
Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK), G.N. Itoo, also addressed concerns raised in the ASER-2025 survey, stating that the government is reviewing infrastructure and academic gaps.
Textbook Distribution & Winter Tutorial Centers
Speaking to reporters, Itoo explained that the switch back to the November-December academic session up to Class 9 was implemented quickly, giving the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) little time for preparation. However, despite the short timeframe, 60% of textbooks have been delivered, and distribution is ongoing.
Additionally, winter tutorial centers across Kashmir are currently providing education to 33,000 students, with many using old books from school book banks to support learning.
Addressing Gaps in Education
DSEK is actively reviewing findings from the ASER-2025 survey and has formed special teams to address concerns. An administrative-level meeting has also been held to discuss solutions.
Itoo confirmed that a comprehensive roadmap is being prepared to tackle these challenges and will soon be submitted to the government. He also highlighted that, in certain areas, Kashmir’s education system has performed better compared to the national level.
