India’s High-Speed Revolution: Vande Bharat Sleeper Edition
The sleeper version of the Vande Bharat train has achieved a trial speed of 180 kmph, setting a new benchmark for Indian railways. While its operational speed is set at 160 kmph, it will be the fastest train on Indian tracks.
The Vande Bharat train, known for its speed and comfort, is already operational across several states, and now the spotlight shifts to the eagerly awaited sleeper variant. According to Integral Coach Factory (ICF) General Manager Subba Rao, these new sleeper Vande Bharat trains will surpass the iconic Rajdhani Express in both speed and passenger comfort.
Rao shared that 10 sleeper trains are currently in production, each featuring 16 coaches. The manufacturing involves collaboration with BEML (Bharat Earth Movers Limited), and the first prototype has already been rolled out for field trials.
Enhanced Features for a Modern Travel Experience
The sleeper Vande Bharat trains are designed with modern amenities to ensure a superior travel experience. While the routes for these trains will be decided by the Railway Board, they promise a major upgrade in convenience and efficiency for long-distance travelers.
Update on Amrit Bharat Trains
In addition to the sleeper Vande Bharat trains, ICF has also shared updates on the upcoming Amrit Bharat trains. A total of 50 Amrit Bharat trains are in the works, with 25 being manufactured by ICF and the rest at the Kapurthala Rail Coach Factory.
Each of these trains will feature 22 coaches, including a pantry car and general class compartments, catering to the needs of diverse passengers.
Bullet Train Progress: India’s High-Speed Milestone
On the bullet train front, General Manager Subba Rao highlighted the ongoing collaboration with BEML to produce two 8-car bullet trains. These high-speed trains, capable of speeds above 250 kmph, will adhere to advanced aerodynamic and noise insulation standards. They are being developed for the ambitious Ahmedabad-Mumbai corridor, marking India’s foray into true high-speed rail travel.
