Srinagar, Feb 1: Fresh snowfall in the higher reaches and rain in the plains have ended the prolonged dry spell in Kashmir Valley, with the Meteorological Department predicting more precipitation over the next four days.
Officials reported intermittent snowfall in the upper regions of Baramulla, Bandipora, Kupwara, and Sonmarg. Some areas of South Kashmir also witnessed light snowfall in the early morning hours.
Meanwhile, Srinagar and its neighboring regions have been experiencing intermittent rainfall since last evening. The showers led to a drop in maximum temperatures on Friday, while the minimum temperature in the city remained above freezing point.
According to the Meteorological Department, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 0.8 degrees Celsius last night, which is 1.4 degrees above the seasonal average. Most areas in Kashmir experienced relatively warmer nighttime temperatures, except for Gulmarg, where the mercury dipped to minus 7.2 degrees Celsius.
