Srinagar, December 26: On Thursday, the Open Merit Students Association (OMSA), which is spearheading the demonstration against the existing reservation policy, pleaded with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to provide the minutes of their Monday meeting.
“After our discussions with the Hon’ble Chief Minister, we were informed that a formal press release with the meeting minutes would be released right away. But almost 48 hours have gone by, and no such declaration has been made public as of yet,” OMSA wrote in a post on X.
We humbly request that the Honorable Chief Minister expedite the issuance of this press release. This would give the worried students, young people, and aspirants much-needed clarification on the topics covered in the discussion, particularly the guarantees given.
According to them, the public announcement is necessary to address the urgent actionable issues that were discussed with the CM and to restate the committee’s commitment to resolving the rationalization issue and any associated concerns within six months of the committee’s establishment date.
Additionally, the students’ association stated that open merit candidates would be unfairly disadvantaged if the current manner of recruiting were to continue. “Until the review is finished and the reservation policy is rationalized, we strongly urge the government to halt all recruitment processes, ensuring fairness and preventing further discrimination,” they continued.
“We hope for prompt action on this matter to ease the concerns of all stakeholders.”
