Washington, Jan 20: Donald Trump, overcoming impeachments, criminal charges, and assassination attempts, is set to be inaugurated as the 47th president on Monday. With Republicans in unified control of Washington, Trump is ready to embark on a mission to reshape the nation’s institutions.

Trump’s first actions post-ceremony are anticipated to include executive orders to expedite deportations, expand fossil fuel development, and reduce civil service protections. He has promised “a brand new day of American strength and prosperity, dignity, and pride.”

Due to freezing weather, Trump’s swearing-in was relocated indoors to the Capitol Rotunda for the first time in four decades, and the inaugural parade was replaced with an event at a downtown arena. Many supporters who flocked to Washington will need to find alternative ways to witness the occasion.

“God has a plan,” said Terry Barber, 46, from Georgia, who traveled nonstop to be in Washington. “I’m good with it.”

Trump’s swearing-in marks a political comeback unparalleled in American history. After being voted out four years ago during the economic turmoil caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Trump attempted to cling to power, inciting supporters to march on the Capitol, resulting in a riot. Despite this, he maintained his hold on the Republican Party, surging past rivals and tapping into voter frustrations over inflation and immigration.

Trump will be the first convicted felon to serve as president, having been found guilty of falsifying business records related to hush money payments. He has pledged to pardon many involved in the January 6 Capitol riot as one of his initial acts in office.

Now seasoned in federal operations, Trump aims to align the government with his vision, emphasizing personal loyalty in appointments. He promises to enact his agenda faster and more forcefully than in his first term, with significant implications for the political, business, and technology sectors.

Trump’s proposed agenda includes restricting immigration, imposing tariffs, and undoing Democratic climate and social policies. His “America First” foreign policy, viewed with caution both domestically and internationally, will be closely observed as conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza persist.

Monday’s events will begin with a prayer service, followed by a traditional meeting with President Joe Biden at the White House before heading to the Capitol together. Vice President-elect JD Vance will be sworn in first, followed by Trump using family and Lincoln Bibles.

Trump’s return to Washington was marked by festivities, including a rally at Capital One Arena, attended by numerous influential figures from business and technology sectors. He has teased a series of executive actions targeting immigration, energy policy, and federal workforce regulations, set to take immediate effect.

Sen. Ted Cruz highlighted the administration’s aggressive approach, anticipating swift actions in alignment with Republican legislative priorities.

House Speaker Mike Johnson confirmed collaboration with the Trump administration on legislation to further dismantle Biden-era policies, reinforcing a shared agenda between the executive and legislative branches.
