Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2025, making several key announcements, particularly in the healthcare sector. Among the significant measures introduced, the government has made 36 essential medicines for serious diseases, including cancer, completely duty-free.
Expansion of Cancer Care Facilities
To enhance cancer treatment accessibility, the Finance Minister announced the establishment of day-care cancer centers in all districts across the country within the next three years. In the current financial year, 200 such centers will be set up, ensuring better healthcare facilities for cancer patients.
Strengthening Medical Education
In a move to improve medical education and address the shortage of healthcare professionals, the government will add 75,000 new medical education seats over the next five years.
Support for Farmers and Rural Development
The Finance Minister also unveiled several initiatives to support farmers, particularly in Bihar. A dedicated Makhana Board will be established to boost the production and trade of makhana, benefiting local farmers.
The Dhanya Dhanya Yojana will be introduced in 100 districts with low agricultural yields. This scheme aims to provide farmers with adequate compensation and promote self-sufficiency in pulse production. Additionally, fish production will be encouraged, and reforms will be made in the financial sector to support agricultural growth.
Further, to aid dairy and fisheries, the government will offer loans of up to ₹5 lakh, ensuring financial support to rural entrepreneurs in these sectors.

During the budget presentation, the Finance Minister emphasized that the government’s primary focus is on health, employment, and economic reforms. The economy is being accelerated under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with a strong emphasis on empowering women and youth.

He described it as the Budget of Developed India, focusing on the aspirations of the poor, farmers, women, and youth.
